First Lady visits Diabetes Treatment Center
WASHINGTON (April 24) -- First Lady of the Republic of South Africa, Gloria Bongi Ngema, visited the Howard University Hospital Diabetes Center Monday to discuss establishing a similar facility in her country.
Ngema was in Washington with her husband, President Jacob Zuma, as part of President Barack Obama’s Nuclear Summit. She and center Director Dr. Gail Nunlee Bland and talked for about an hour about how the center is run, the kind of patients it serves and what kind of staff and equipment are required for the operation to be successful.
She was also registered into the center’s computer system so she and the center can share information.
