Howard University Hospital CEO to Receive Leadership Award from D.C. Hospital Association
WASHINGTON (Sept. 24, 2012) -- Larry Warren, president and chief executive officer of Howard UniversityHospital (HUH), will receive the first D.C. Hospital Association (DCHA) Robert L. Sloan Leadership Award on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Washington Hilton.
Over 400 members of the health care industry, business community andgovernment officials are expected to honor Warren, who is receiving the award for his leadership in guiding the hospital since his arrival in 2006.
The selection committee, made up of the presidents and CEOs of otherhospitals, said Warren met the of criteria for the award by demonstrating “impeccable and sound leadership skills, a commitment to foster successful relationships and partnerships in the DC health care community, high personal integrity and professional excellence.”
He was nominated for the award by Glenda F. Hodges, associate hospital director for HUH, who said in her letter to the committee that because of Warren’s leadership the “work environment is now more positive and our workers more determined than ever to make a difference.”
“He has exhibited sound fiscal management in tight times and significantly improved our bottom line,” Hodges said. The DCHA Robert L. Sloan Leadership Award is named after the former president and CEO of Sibley Memorial Hospital in northwest Washington. Sloan retired in July 2012 after 26 years as head of the hospital.
Prior to Warren’s position at Howard University Hospital, he worked at the University of Michigan Hospital, where he served as CEO from 1996 until his retirement in 2005.
