Mncube-Barnes Named Executive Director of Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library
WASHINGTON - Howard University recently announced the appointment of Fatima M. Mncube-Barnes, Ed.D, MPH, MSIS, as executive director of the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library. Dr. Mncube-Barnes joins Howard University on Jan. 4, 2016, and will report to the provost and chief academic officer.
In her new role, Dr. Mncube-Barnes will be responsible for the management and administration of the library and all other Health Sciences Library services, with a special focus on academic programs and related requirements of the health sciences. This includes the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing & Allied Health Sciences and Pharmacy, Howard University Hospital, the Student Health Center and the Health Sciences Simulation Center. She will also have responsibility for the collection, policies and program resources for faculty, students, researchers and community patrons.
Dr. Mncube-Barnes comes to Howard University following her most recent appointment as associate vice president, Instructional Technologies, at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. While at Meharry, she also served as assistant professor in graduate and research studies, library director and bioinformatician. Prior to her tenure at Meharry, Dr. Mncube-Barnes held various academic leadership positions involving technology and database management.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University in 1998, Dr. Mncube-Barnes completed an Ed.M. in Technology, Innovation and Education at Harvard University in 2000. She holds an MPH in Public Health & Public Health Informatics from the University of Illinois and an Ed.D., in Curriculum & Instruction from Tennessee State University. In addition, she has an MSIS in Information Science from the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Mncube-Barnes has authored and collaborated extensively on peer-reviewed publications, and frequently serves as a conference and workshop presenter on health-care research methodologies and technology. She is an expert in instructional design, knowledge management and technology integration.
