WASHINGTON -- The American Heart Association's (AHA) 2013 Greater Washington Region Heart Walk was a huge success. The Heart Walk is the AHA's premiere event that brings communities together to raise money and celebrate progress in the fight against heart disease. Howard University Health Sciences (HUHS) has been partnering with the AHA and the Greater Washington Region Heart Walk for a decade, and this year we were proud to support the walk as a signature partner.

This year's Heart Walk was held on Saturday, November 9 on the National Mall, and it was a fun and spirited day full of heart healthy activities, vendors and educational resources. The event drew a record number of participants, and as a team, HUHS had over 200 faculty, staff and student walkers. Collectively, HUHS raised over $30,000. The money raised will be used to fund the valuable research, education and advocacy efforts of AHA.

Thank you to all of our walkers, donors and volunteers for taking a stand against heart disease and helping save lives. HUHS is excited about our ongoing collaboration with AHA, and we look forward to participating in the 2014 Greater Washington Region Heart Walk on Saturday, November 8.
