WASHINGTON - Three graduates of the Howard University College
of Dentistry have been named diplomates after being certified by the American
Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). Nidya De La Torre, a 1993 graduate, and
2009 graduates Claudia A. Connerly and April J. Johnson will be officially
recognized at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
later this year.
Meanwhile, Heidi O. Vatanka, a 2011 graduate, received the Richard C. Pugh
Achievement Award for being in the top 3 percent of scores of the 2011 qualifying
examination of the ABPD.
A diplomate of the ABPD is a pediatric dentist whose
credentials have been verified, who has successfully completed voluntary examinations
and who demonstrates specialized knowledge and skill and is dedicated to providing
exceptional patient care through a voluntary commitment to lifelong learning. The
goal of the ABPD is to achieve excellence in pediatric dentistry through certification
of all pediatric dentists.
