Howard University Sponsors Free Gardens for Washington Residents

WASHINGTON (May 14, 2013) -- Join the Howard University My Garden Project, a free program sponsored by Howard University College of Medicine, Howard University Hospital and the Doctors of Howard University for Washington families with elementary school children designed to teach children about the importance of healthy eating and the joy of watching fruits and vegetables grow.

Howard University physicians will plant a free garden at your home or apartment that will then be tended by your child.  The gardens, made up of tomatoes, squash, cucumbers or other vegetables, are largely self-sufficient.  They primarily only need watering during particularly long periods of drought.

Our physicians, along with our special gardener, will stop in periodically to help with the garden.

To sign up for a free garden, please email Lindsay Conn at, or Ron Harris at, or call 202.683.0182.
