This class teaches how to use PubMed, the National Library of Medicine's search service, which provides access to the 9 million citation in MEDLINE and Pre-MEDLINE (with links to participating online journals), and other related databases. Learn how to search subject headings, keywords, and authors; use limitations; and search for clinical queries will be covered.
Many of the LSHSL's online resources are accessed through the OVID Gateway. This class has been developed to familiarize attendees with OVID interface, which is used for the Cumulative Index to nursing and Allied health Literature (CINAHL), PsychInfo, Journals@OVID and more.
Navigating Full-Text Journals
This class provides an overview of full-text electronic journals and databases (including PubMed Central, MD Consult, etc.) available through the LSHSL. Participants will learn how to use the Library's Remote Access Service to access full-text journals from any location. The class also covers emailing and saving the full text articles.

Participants will learn the personalized searching and alerting features that have been designed to enable you to keep on top of developing trends and unfolding discoveries in your field of expertise, with less time required on your part.
The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) database provides authoritative coverage of the professional literature-journals, books, pamphlets, etc.-in nursing and 17 allied health fields. This class will introduce participants to the scope and content of CINAHL and instruct users on basic searching techniques.
International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA)
The class covers the Scope and contents of International Pharmaceutical Abstracts. The International Pharmaceutical Abstracts Database provides worldwide coverage of pharmaceutical science and health related literature from 1970 to the present, and is updated monthly. Comprehensive information is included for drug therapy, toxicity, and pharmacy practice as well as legislation, regulation, technology, utilization, bio pharmaceutics, information processing, education, economics, and ethics as related to pharmaceutical science and practice.
Internet for Medical Research
This class covers Internet basics, including web browser commands, URLs, and hyperlinks. Participants will learn the use of the web as a research tool, strategies for searching the web, full-text journals on the web, strategies for evaluating electronic information, using helper applications (plug ins) and more. Hands-on practice.
This class teaches the basic tools in beginning medical research. Students will learn where to find the definition of terms, physician's certification or area of practice, questions regarding prescriptions and drugs, periodical literature as well as sources that give the legal point of view.
