Reserve Collections

The Reserve Collection is composed of high demand materials which require restricted usage. Faculty may make specific materials available to their students by placing them on reserve at the Access Services Desk. Reserves are checked out for two hours and must be used in the Library. Some reserves may be checked out overnight or for three-day or one week- periods at the faculty's discretion. A Reserve Collection shelf-list will be compiled and maintained by Access Services Department.

Placing Materials on Reserve

  • Faculty must submit a completed reserve request to the LSHSL Access Services desk.
  • Forms should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the date the materials will be needed. Without two weeks notice, availability of materials cannot be guaranteed.
  • LSHSL materials and personal copies of books and articles (up to five copies of each book/article) may be placed on reserve.
  • At the end of semester, LSHSL materials will be re-shelved in the general collection; faculty must pick up personal copies.
  • A Reserve Collection list will be compiled and maintained by Access Services Department.

Note:

  • Faculty members are urged to check STERLING (the online catalog) to see if the books, which are requested for reserve, are in the library.
  • It is highly recommended that a syllabus and/or reading list for each class for which you have reserve items be submitted. This is useful for students who wish to review all reading materials for a class, but who have misplaced or forgotten their list at home.
