An overarching Healthy People 2020 goal is health equity with elimination of disparities and improvement of the health of all groups. To achieve this goal, training of the next generation of researchers and leaders is of critical importance. The research action agenda from the RCCHD's national conference recommended "the development, implementation, or increased investment in 1) broad training in child health disparities. . . 2) funding and technical assistance to support this training. . . 3) programs to strengthen child health research and practice workforce diversity. . . " The Center directly addresses these recommendations with the overall objectives to 1) identify, recruit, retain and mentor promising minority investigators; 2) promote quality research training; and 3) promote quality research on child health disparities in the life course perspective.
