Health Management Sciences Concentration Requirements for Junior and Senior Years
Intra-University and Inter-Departmental Transfer Procedures for Howard Students:
Howard students who completed coursework of the lower division [freshman and sophomore] and seek and have not declared major at the lower division and intend to transfer to Department of Health Sciences and Management with concentration in Health Management Sciences in the upper division [junior and senior] must meet the following criteria:
Entrance requirements into the junior and senior year/upper division as follows:
Complete at least 61 credit hours of coursework in the lower division – [freshman and sophomore prerequisite and required courses].
Complete 59 credit hours of coursework in the upper division – junior and senior prerequisite and required courses]
Submit an intra-university or inter-departmental application for admission to the Department of Health Sciences and Management with Concentration in Health Management Sciences with Bachelor of Science and Health Sciences. Transfer application to the upper division is seamless and not required of students applied for admissions as first-time-in-college if in the 4-year curriculum applicable for students of the Department of Health Sciences with concentration in Health Management Sciences Program in the Department of Health Sciences and Management in the Division of Allied Health Sciences of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.
Possess a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0.
Submit a career statement expressing interest in pursuing a career in Health Management/Administration (1-2 pages). The statement is optional for students transferring and/or promoted to upper division of the 4-year Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and have already declared Health Management Concentration in the Department of Health Sciences and Management as first time in college and subjects the admission requirements of Howard University.
Update prerequisite science course/s that is more than 5 years old as prescribed by the faculty of the Health Management Sciences Program.
Complete personal interview by the faculty of the Health Management Sciences Program.
Advanced Credits for Students Transferring From Accredited Colleges and Universities:
Applicants who transfer or have taken pre-requisite or required courses from accredited institutions acceptable by Howard University may receive advanced standing for only those courses applicable to the degree in Health Management Sciences. Subject to the established policies of the College of Arts and Science, College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences and the Department of Health Sciences and Management, applicants will be required to take additional courses. as well as required challenge examinations in individual courses such as Mathematics, English to receive additional advance standing, on case by case basis.
Minimum Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor of Sciences in Health Sciences:
A candidate for the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences in Health Sciences with concentration in Health Management Sciences Program must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours which include all prerequisites, elective and required courses in liberal arts, allied health sciences, business administration, health management core courses and other requirements stated in the curriculum effective Fall 2012 and must satisfy the following criteria:
Completed all required and elective coursework in allied health sciences, liberal arts, and business and health management sciences.
Obtained a minimum of cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0.
Meet all academic, financial and university and college required exist interviews and graduation clearances.
Updated prerequisite arts and science, as well as health management and business administration courses taken more than 5 years prior to entry to the program must be updated as prescribed by the curriculum of study, admissions policies and chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Management/Health Management Sciences Program.
